Landels News
Dear Landels Families,
Thank you to our wonderful PTA and all the families that donate for providing our students with field trips, assemblies, Playworks, and many other enriching opportunities. Wayne Houchin captivated our students with a magic show last week, and tomorrow we are excited to welcome Grupo Folklórico in celebration of Latino/Hispanic Heritage Month. Check out the action on Instagram or Facebook. Thank you so much for your contributions and see you at the Walkathon on 10/24 starting at 3pm!
Message from PTA and Invitation to Tuesday Morning Meeting
The PTA is excited to share an invitation from Principal Dolmans for grown-ups to join Morning Meeting next Tuesday! At 8:12am when the music starts playing, parents who want to stay for morning meeting will say goodbye to their student and make their way to the tables under the solar panels. Please wait to leave until after the students are dismissed back to their classrooms - usually around 8:30am.
We're excited to try this out and if it goes well, we'll be invited back to a morning meeting in early November. Going well means: we've already said our goodbyes before morning meeting, we aren't distracting our students or disrupting teacher routines, and we leave the gated part of campus immediately after the students are dismissed back to their classrooms. Please also refrain from taking pictures or videos. Teachers will do their best to capture the important moments during morning meeting.
PTA is appreciative to have a chance to be a part of the morning meeting - it’s a wonderful way to share in the energy and community spirit of Landels!
Conferences
You should have received an email from your child’s teacher on how to sign up for conferences. If you don’t receive an email, please reach out to your child’s teacher or the front office. Conference week is scheduled for October 13th-17th. Every day that week is a minimum day for students (dismissal at 12:10pm).
Next Week - No School on Thursday and Friday
Please note that there is no school on Thursday and Friday of next week (October 9th and 10th).
Thank you!
Pieter Dolmans
Short-term Independent Study
Short-term Independent Study is a contract that allows students to work independently when there are circumstances that make attending school difficult. Short-term Independent study can range from a minimum of 3 days and a maximum of 14 days per school year. Contracts are approved on a case-by-case basis, require a 2-week notice, and require students to be in good academic and attendance standing.
We understand that certain absences are sometimes unavoidable. It is important to do your best to have your child in school as much as possible. Whenever you can, try to avoid taking trips during the school year -- or make efforts to take trips during District holidays, calendar linked here. Our office staff can assist you with contract details: Ms. Ann Moorti at [email protected].

Mental Health Resources for Students
As the school year starts, it's important for students to know that help is available for mental health challenges that may arise. Check out these posters for information. Other resources are available at our Virtual Wellness Center under the Mental Health tab. You can always reach out to your school counselor, too. We are here to help.
Parents will be notified in writing if children fail a screening. Parents who do not want their child screened for either vision and/or hearing should send a letter to their child's school each school year indicating that their child is to be excluded, and vision and/or hearing results will need to be provided by their physician.
If you have any concerns about your child’s vision or hearing, please contact your school nurse. Questions about the screenings should be directed to the Health Services office at 650-526-3500 ext. 1050.
In 2024–25, YOUR donations to MVEF made a big impact!
